This unique and impressive event is the official launch of the 2018 Barbados Crop Over Festival.

Historic King George V Memorial Park will be transformed into a cohobblopot of sounds, smells and sights showcasing the island’s rich cultural traditions through the years. This event presents opportunities to explore and acknowledge some of the practices and experiences associated with the traditional Crop Over celebrations and, in so doing, promotes an understanding and appreciation of the history of sugar as being the very foundation of our Barbadian cultural identity.

However, it is not only a look back, at this family-oriented event everyone is invited to enjoy a day rich with tradition that celebrates our past and present while it offers a tantalising glimpse of tomorrow.

King George V Memorial Park will be the scene of a veritable ‘Xplosion’ of pageantry, top notch music, mouthwatering culinary dishes and exciting educational activities guaranteed to provide a fun-filled day for the whole family as we celebrate Barbados’ unique and inclusive cultural diversity and heritage.

EVENT FEATURES

“Tastes of the Caribbean”

An eclectic collection of the most famous dishes from our Caribbean neighbours including jerk chicken and pork with festival dumplings; doubles and roti; pepperpot and MORE!

 

“De Ol’ Rum Shop”

A cool liming area to learn about favourite Barbadian past times.

  • Souse Eating Competition

  • Draughts “Blitz Tournament” – Try to conquer the king with Suki King
  • Dominoes
  • Mixology Demonstrations

 

“De Marketplace” 

This zone will provide a marketplace  for Youth Talent, Skills and Entrepreneurship.

  • Craft and Health & Wellness vendors
  • Demonstrations and workshops e.g. textile hanging; pottery making; jewellery making, woodcarving; weaving; en plein air painting etc.

 

Interactive Crop Over Exhibition in collaboration with Barbados Museum and Historical Society

  • An educational, fully interactive exhibition where patrons can learn about the roots of our most famous festival as we explore and celebrate Barbadian culture then and now.

 Invitational Road Tennis Tournament

Watch Crop Over celebrities battle it out in a thrilling, totally indigenous sporting event as they vie for the coveted title of Crop Over Road Tennis Celebrity Champion.

The Royal Barbados Police Force Floodlight  Tattoo 

This spectacular display by the RBPF was a real crowd pleaser and will be back this year even bigger and better with the inclusion of the Mounted Police.

 

The Big Bang Concert – Tuk it Up!

“Tuk it Up”  will be an exciting musical event showcasing tuk in all its innovative glory as the foundation of Barbadian Soca /Bashment music and as a flexible indigenous beat that lends itself to fusions and innovations with other musical genres and artistes.
